Accountability, choice, transparency and incentives represent the pillars essential to reconstruct Arkansas’ public schools. Each of these must be fully incorporated and supported for the others to work. Together, they will power the necessary relationships, priorities and incentive structures to produce meaningful change in our schools.
Accountability
Individual schools and teachers should be held responsible for the quality of education children receive. The measure of such performance should be based on student test results. Read more about Accountability.
Choice
We believe students should have the opportunity to move from failing schools to any public school that can provide them with a better quality educational product. Read more about Choice.
Transparency
Parents should have readily accessible and understandable information on the quality of their children’s schools and teachers. Currently, Arkansas grades schools with vague terms such as “needs improvement.” Read more about Transparency.
Incentives
After determining accurate measures of academic achievement, monetary rewards should be provided to school staff members to recognize both their positive impact on student learning and also to encourage them to constantly employ effective instructional methods based on achievement data analysis.
