Why

In 2003, Arkansas public education found itself at a crossroads. As a result of the Lakeview Decision, and based on findings of inequity and inadequacy, the Arkansas Supreme Court declared the Arkansas public education system to be unconstitutional.

In an effort to bring accountability to a new level, Act 35 – a multi-year assessment of the academic progress and performance of Arkansas' public schools, students and teachers – was written into law. The act established a framework of accountability for Arkansas’ public education system, which has since been declared constitutional by the Arkansas Supreme Court and climbed from 49th to 6th in national ranking, according to Education Week’s 2011 Quality Counts report.

AEAC continues to work toward the organization of an annual Arkansas Education Accountability Coalition Symposium, where the expanded membership can interact, offer input and hear presentations regarding current education reform issues, challenges and opportunities.
